Final additional projects

I have now finished making my final changes to my projects here is an example of them:

• Poster/Flyer

• Album cover front

• Album back cover

Overall i think the improvements and changes i have to these projects have been successful, the choice of colour schemes, types of texts and positioning etc also works really well with these projects. The flyer/poster i have created is simple yet effect, the dark background and picture really creates a contrast as i have used white text. I feel that this makes the text stand out and draws attention to the reader. My album cover really captures the style of the band we made our music video about, it portrays a typical boy rock band, as i have referred to earlier in my blog eg: Busted and Kasbian, this is conforming with typical stereotypes which also makes it successful. The colour scheme i used really work well with each other as the red draws attention and the white does also. I feel the effects that i have used on the texts also work very well as they are quite different to other types of text that i could of used, they also add a depth to the styling of the album cover, finally i think that the picture nicely fits in with the rest of the album. The back of the album cover also has the picture on and this makes it a little more interesting as there is something for the viewer to look at. I have also used different coloured texts this adds a difference to my other projects and therefore works as it does not look as consistent. Overall i am pleased with what i have created as i have developed skills that i never had before.

Further changes

Next lesson i plan to make further changes to the back of my album cover and my flyer, this is because i feel they are not quite fitting in with the theme of the band. I will be changing things such as colours, text and editing of images. Hopefully i will have completed this by the end of this week but i feel that what i have created so far is really starting to develop well.

Changes to album cover

I have decided to make a few changes to my album cover and will be doing so to my poster. I have done this because i feel that my album cover needed a few changes, i have changed the colour and added a border. Here is a picture of what i have created:

I feel that this is a development to what i first created and is possibly better, but i still would like to change the sizing of the text '' Fight for this '' this is because i think it needs to be bigger to have more of an effect on the viewer, as it is the name of the album this need to be empathized.

Research of album covers

To support the work i have produced for album cover for my additional projects i have decided to provide some research, including images of existing album covers that have a similar resemblence to the one i have created and also were i have got any ideas from for mine. Here is my first example:

• This is busted album cover, i feel that the bright colours used really bring out the style of the band and this also makes the actual album really stand out to the viewer. The editing that has been used to create this image of the band gives a very rock style image and this creates a good feel for the album. I have taken influence from this album and will interpret similar ideas into my album cover.

Here is an another example of an album cover that has influenced me:

• This is Kasabian's album cover, i have taken some influence from this because of the bold text and bold colours that have been used. Although this album cover does not have an image place on it, i still feel that it represents the theme and style of the band to viewer. I really like this cover as it is simple, yet it really suits the type of band that Kasabian are.
  

My projects so far

So far i have created both my additional projects in photo shop, what i have created is reasonably good but i will carry on developing them throughout the coursework time scale. Here is an example of what i have created:

Overall i feel that this is a good start but i will as i said earlier i will be devloping this projects by changing the style of texts, adding more effects and so on.

Picture used for my projects

As i explained earlier i have had to use different image for my additional projects. I feel that this has worked out reasonably well as the picture i have used still fits the profile of the band '' Not advised.'' Here is an example of the image:

My friends Tom, Callum and Liam kindly volunteered to be in this picture. This picture is perfect for my projects as they really do look like a band when edited into the poster and CD cover for my projects, hopefully my projects will turn reasonably well.

As we are not allowed to use any copyrighted images for our projects i have decided to take a picture of Friends posing to be the band '' Not Advised '' this is the image that you see in my additional project.

Poster

I feel that my project would look better as a flyer instead of a full size poster, this is due to the fact that i feel the more simple the project is the more effective it is. I also feel that the image i have used would not work if it was bigger as it would worsen the quality of the picture. Another reason why i feel i cannot do a poster is because of the layout i do not think that any think would be effect around this image, i think it would look over crowded. Yet i am still open to other ideas and this idea may change.

Additional project (poster)

I have now started to use photo shop and i have started to create a better image for my poster, here is what i have created:

To create this i layered the photo of Tom, Liam and Callum over the background picture of the cloud and i then adjusted the brightness and contrast. The next step i took was to make a new layer and put it to the front of the piece. Then by using the paint bucket tool i filled the layer with black colouring and then i erased the edges out with a soft eraser. Too add detail to my poster i added some text, i then used the filter option and used blur tool and chose the option Gaussian to add effect to the text, this created a blur behind the text. I feel that this is a good starting point for my poster but i will now devlop my ideas and add further adujstments to it. I will add more text and possibly make the poster larger.

Photoshop/Publisher

I decided to use Publisher to create my first poster for my additional project, i have now deiced to use Photoshop as i feel that it would be possible to create a more successful poster. This is because i feel that Photoshop has more effects and further technology that i can use to create a more professional looking poster and CD cover. Although i do not have many skills regarding Photoshop i would really like to learn how to use it. I now intend to work further on my additional projects.

Additional Project's

I have completed the magazine cover for my additional project, I feel that the magazine cover i have produced is reasonably good, but i will allow for change if i feel there is further room for improvement. Here is a picture of my project:




I really like the colours I have used in this project i feel that they really work well together and they fit in with the theme of the band. The positioning of the shapes, text and pictures i have used has also worked really well as it fits with the stereotype of a young male rock band, this is because they are seen to be a bit outrageous and wacky and by using the positioning i have used i feel it represents this to the viewer. Overall i am reasonably pleased with the magazine cover i have used, I now plan to start my CD cover for the band.

Music for our video

Today we have managed to get the song for our music video, this will now make it a lot easier for us to use it when we are editing the filming. We can also use the music to give us ideas for further filming possibilities. This we now help us see that our project is slowly but surely coming together.

Filming

We have decided to start our filming tomorrow (Tuesday 3rd November.)
We plan to film the opening shots of the main character, this including things such as getting ready, waking up, eating breakfast etc. We will also film a group of people socialising, drinking at night possibly down the park or a public area, depending on how much time we have left.
So far we have filmed all the shots in the college, the main character walking into college, through the corridors, out to the smoking areas and finally into a lesson. This is only a small part of what we had planned to do. We had hoped to film the rest during the half term last week. but couldn't due to problems with transport so we have postponed it until tomorrow.

Change of Character

For the music video we planned to use Rich Watson as out main character, unfortunately he's not available when we need him to film. So we have deiced to change the main character featured in our music video. We have now planned to use a member of our group, (Amber Noble.) Due to this change to the story line, this now means that there will not be any dancing involved as Amber is not an experienced dancer like Rich.

Idea's for additional projects

As I already have stated before I will be doing a poster and a CD album cover for my additional projects. I am now going to research other magazine covers and album covers that I feel have relevance to my our music video, this is to give me ideas for what i actually want to create for my own. I will include pictures of our band that we are using ''not advised", by researching this it will allow me to see what is popular and will work the best to give me the best outcome possible. • This is a magazine cover for vampire weekend, as you can see they have used a picture of the band as they are clearly the main focus, they have also used bold writing to draw attention the reader.
  

• Here is the Artic Monkeys on the cover of a magazine, this cover is really effective again a picture of the band has been used, they have also used different coloured backgrounds and texts this is really effective as it is very eye-catching.

I have also been looking at album covers that already exists today, this enables me to have ideas for my own album cover i am going to produce, here are some covers that i feel are inspirational:

Story line

We have created a story line for our music video, this is to give us to get us organized and give us a better idea of what we our doing for our video.

Morning - Alarm goes off. Rich (main character) wakes up as music starts and walks down stairs looking tired and dopey.

• Rich eats a massive breakfast piled up on the plate.
  
• Then walks out the front door, closing it behind him.

College - Tommy receives phone call from Rich.

• Rich walks into college refectory
  
• Geeky people sat at tables.
  
• When rich starts dancing, geeky people stand up and dance around in background.
• Rich and Tommy do flips etc off the pool table.

Afternoon - Rich and Tommy walk out of college and into Rich's house.

Night time - Film Rich's feet walking into party, surrounded by other peoples feet.

• Pan up to full shot of Rich as he walks into party with Tommy following.
  
• Speed up footage of party as it starts.
  
• Have band playing in the background.

Morning After - Rich wakes up, trips over passed out body on ground.

• Rich goes downstairs, messy kitchen, eats another huge breakfast.
• Pans up to a close up of Rich's confused face.

Comparison's to other similar music video's

We have looked at a range of music videos to give us ideas of how we would like our own music video to turn out.Firstly we looked at the music video for 'the anthem' by Good Charlotte, this is similar to how we would like ours to turn out, they use a lot of images of people jumping around and teenagers doing lots of everyday actions, as well as being a bit outrageous. I feel that this creates quite an effective video due to the fact that there is a lot happening and this keeps the attention of the watcher. Secondly we looked at the video 'all the small things' by blink 182 this also has a lot of clips of teenagers jumping around to the music, it also shows the band being very outrageous and attracting attention to themselves, i feel that this sort of video really attracts the viewer and keeps them watching as a lot of interesting things happen within the video, the video is not boring due to this . This video also points out and outlines the existence of 'boy bands' this is a typical stereotype, and within our music video we are planning to have a scene that points fun at 'geeks'. Also bellow is a 'parkour' video of people jumping off buildings and over objects doing extreme stunts etc. We will involve something with this kind of element within our own music video, but it will clearly have to be less extreme for it to be safe enough:











The film " District 13" also has relevance to what we would like to produce for our music video, this is because it shows people doing extreme stunts like jumping over cars and climbing onto walls and other objects, there is some fighting involved, and it is mainly based on crime. Additional projects

For the additional projects i have deiced to do a CD album cover and also a magazine cover, to create these products i will need certain skills and programs, these skills and programs include: magazine design, photo shop, in-design and publisher. These would be needed for my additional products to be successful and also look professional.

Permission from the band

Amber spoke to a Friend that is part of the band Not advised, he had spoken to the publishers and we have now received permission to use any of the bands songs. We now as a group need to decide on a song that we all want to use.
After discussing this issue we deiced that we want to use ''Jane says left'' we felt that this would best fit the type of music video we wanted to create. We also decided to discuss some ideas for filming, these include things such as:

• Having a group if geeky looking people sat around a table acting normal, then when the music begins then start jumping around dancing, they will then be joined by 20 to 30 other normal looking people.
• Having a group of people jump into a swimming pool fully clothed.
• Having a Friend of ours do flips etc, around objects.
• Having short clips of the band playing in front of a crowd
• Clips of peoples feet, wearing high heals or nice evening shoes, panning across.
• Images of people passed out in a messy room surrounded by empty alcohol bottle's/cans.
• Finally having a friend of ours have a dance off with various other dancers

Research and planning

For our music video we are hoping to use one of ''Not Advised'' songs, Not Advised are an unsigned band from the area of Southampton. To give us ideas on our own video that we are going to produce, we looked at some of Not Advised videos for some inspiration. Amber contacted a member of the band to receive permission to use one of their songs, we are waiting to hear back from them.
We have also had a few ideas about what to include in our video, for one scene we though that we could possibly use Amber's nans pool and have a group of around 30 to 20 people to jump in fully clothed.

Media Production

Hi, I'm Laura and this is my blog related to my college media coursework for A2 Media Production. The whole point of this blog is to demonstrate planning and research. I will start with the brief of the project, Me, Jay, Vicki and Amber have agreed that we will be producing a music video for our project. In order for our project to work we have to find some copyrighted free music to use within the video.

We have a few ideas for our music video that we feel would work effectively, these include ideas such as doing the video in black and white, we also had an idea of using Amber's Nan's swimming pool and getting a large number of people to jump in. We took this influence from the video, You're The Designers, We're The Deciders by not advised.
